Shawn Braden Daniels

Today we said goodbye to a very special and very loved nephew. It was a heartbreaking loss, because little Shawn didn't really get his chance to laugh, crawl, walk or experience the joy of a family's love. In addition to the family connection we feel for this special little guy, we are also drawn by a connection to our very own Pearl.

Shawn was born this April on Pearl's birthday, far too premature, but desperately clinging to life. We eagerly awaited updates over the weeks, listening to the stories of so many setbacks, so many operations, yet so many days endured. Little Shawn lost his battle on Pearl's Forever Family day after 141 days in this world. He left his parents the same day Pearl joined hers.

There was a poem that his mother placed in his funeral program that seemed to capture the sentiment and it was as follows:

GOD SAW YOU GETTING TIRED

God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be.
So He wrapped his arms around you
And whispered, "Come to me."

You didn't deserve what you went through,
So He gave you rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best.

And when I saw you sleeping,
So peaceful and free from pain,
I could not wish you back
To suffer that again.
